NEW CUSTOMS REGULATION IN INDONESIA
1. With effect from 15/12/08
For inbound cargo to Indonesia such as electronics cargo, garment/textiles, children toys, footwear, also food and beverages, Indonesia Trade ministry together with Customs will require the following additional documents (besides import license/permit):
- Special importer number
- Surveyor report from POL
- Statement letter from consignee for realization of import shpt
- Import planning report from consignee for a year
2. National Single Window - With effect from 01/01/09 (trial starting for Jakarta seaport first)
There will be new customs system called National Single Window. This new system will be automatically online with other 18 related Indonesia government institutions for inbound shpt. One of the purposes of the system is to shorten the time taken to recheck the consignee's import approval request. Once the manifest and import approval request is submitted to customs, ideally it will automatically connect to the related government institution and recheck whether the approval can be given or not.
All consignees in Indonesia must ensure that they have all the necessary import license/permit and additional documents to process the clearance of their shipments into Indonesia to avoid any complex customs problem and unnecessary high cost penalty and delay.
