An interview with Silvia Pueyo, Assistant General Manager & Sales of GL Uniexco
 How would GL Uniexco keep their business vigorous during economic down turn?
“To keep our business vigorous during an economic downturn, our course of action is to fortify sales and marketing plans. Mr. Vicente Martínez as the National Sales Manager has reinforced our sales activities nationwide, we have added more sales staff selling our services in Barcelona , Valencia , Madrid and Bilbao . Our objectives are the acquisition of new clients, the maintenance care of our existing client and enhancing our services”
What are your business objectives over the next following months in terms of Strategic Planning? “They are to intensify sales activities at the national and international level, with business trips that will allow us to grow our business, for imports as well as exports. Examples of these countries would be ( USA , Mexico , Colombia , Argentina , Brazil , Egypt ). We are offering competitive rates and superior services to our agents worldwide; who they are in turn extended arm in selling our services would be able to sell our services.
How is the team monitoring the daily operation and what are the responses? Our management team conducts daily follow-up of our clients' account status, cargo volumes (export/import), and payment status, thanks to our efficient accounting system. There was a reassessment of credit policies due to the credit squeeze. Many of our clients, in turn, request for longer credit term of 30-60days. We have taken adequate measures and results are encouraging.
How would you evaluate the Market of today? In spite of a weak economy there are opportunities. Slowly but surely, we witnessed a reduction in import volumes, mainly due to the weakness of the construction and automotive industries. At the national level, there are mergers between freight forwarders and NVOCC 's due to bank's tightening of credit.
GL Uniexco is building up IT department to look into internet and internal process. Recently, we have introduced a fully automated system for departure and arrival confirmation notices. These investments have set us apart from our competitors. Through our website customers are kept up-to-date with the features and services that meet the customers' needs.

We also conduct weekly sales meetings, review and control sessions with our finance director of key accounts and business development oversight meetings. One objective is the reduction of overall operating costs through increased control of outlays without consequential compromise in the quality of our product” Slyvia added.
