Tianjin Port Customs Opens Second of Four Inland Depots in Beijing

The Port of Tianjin has finished building the second inland checkpoint and cargo processing facility in Beijing, one of four such depots to be set up by the seaport.The facility, called Pinggu International Inland Port, has commenced operation and offers one-stop customs clearance and sea-land intermodal service to shippers from hinterland region. Shippers can now process cargo at the depot and have it transported directly to Tianjin for rapid export shipment.

 

PSA's January-November Container Traffic Up 8.8 pc

SINGAPORE 's PSA International has announced that its container terminals in the Lion City handled 26.86 million TEU in the first 11 months of the year, an increase of 8.8 per cent compared to the same period last year.

But container throughput in November fell by 1.5 per cent from a year earlier and was down 9.3 per cent compared to October of this year, according to preliminary figures released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, reports Reuters.

I t added that Singapore's exports registered a sharp decline in October on the back of slowing demand from the city state's key trading partners in the US and Europe.

 

Euro Decline Prompts MSC to Suspend Surcharges from January

MEDITERRANEAN Shipping Co (MSC) has announced that it is suspending its BUC and CAF surcharges from January 1.

The carrier said in a statement that the move was prompted by the "recent bunker price reduction" and was also owing to the euro's rapid depreciation against the US dollar.

The suspension of BUC and CAF charges applies to shipments transported from and to Asia and to and from north west Europe, including Portugal, Spain and the Baltic Sea Region, as well as the Mediterranean area, including the west and east Mediterranean region, Black Sea region, West Africa, North Africa and the Canary Islands.
