Ports February Throughputs
HK port up by 3.7% to 3.08m TEU in February, Singapore up by 12% to 4.6m TEU while snow slows Shanghai growth to 2.5% at 1.8m TEU.
Hong Kong - Figures from the Hong Kong Marine Department show the port handled 3.08 million TEU in February, an increase of 9.6 % over the 1.5 million throughput in February last year.
Singapore - The Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) reported a 12 % increase in February to 2.18 million TEU against February 2007's throughput of 2.1 million TEU.
From January to February, Singapore handled 4.63 TEU, a year-on-year gain of 12 % from 4.14 million TEU.
Shanghai - Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) throughput only increased 2.5 % year on year to 1.8 million TEU in February because of snow storms.
SIPG handled 26 million tonnes in February, a year-on-year increase of 3.5 %, which is the smallest monthly growth of Shanghai port in recent years.
Total cargo volume of Shanghai port from January to February grew 5.2 % to 56.17 million tonnes, including 37.3 million tonnes which rose 7.6 %, the report added.
