Australian Customs Budger cut mean 75pc Less Screening
AUSTRALIAN budget cuts will mean 75 per cent less air cargo entering Australia will be screened by customs, reports the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
That means inspection targets for air cargo will drop 75 per cent in the next financial year and 30,000 fewer sea cargo consignments will be screened, said ABC News.
A senate estimates committee heard A$50 million (US$39.2 million) has been cut from the Customs and Border Protection Service budget.
But the Customs and Border Protection Service assured the senate hearing all suspect cargo will be dealt with.
